Well, Hello there! Long time no read, hasn’t it? Yes, I am still alive, just currently haven’t had a chance to sit down and type away. Life always throws more at you than you can juggle sometimes. Anyway….it’s time for another manga review!
This one was such a quick series, but so sweet to its core. Bloody Sweet is a four volume series that follows the story of Naerim, an introverted daughter of a shaman. She is an easy target against bullies, that is until Fetechou, a fun loving vampire, takes a bite and the two enter into a master servant contract.
This manga was a good read. I enjoyed Naerim’s development throughout the series. Fetechou has that green flag and big dog energy that we all need in someone. He encouraged her, told her she was enough, and honestly I love that he wanted her not to repeat the same mistakes that he did. Them getting to know each other and grow closer, she gained more confidence in herself.
I think this story had a lot to say about how bullying can start for the most stupidest of reasons such as someone who is wearing glasses or in Naerim’s case, being the daughter of a shaman. I really enjoyed seeing Naerim finally stand up for herself as well as move forward with her life. I think sometimes we as humans like to dwell in being a victim in a sense, and use it as a way to give excuses as to why we can’t change and move forward. Naerim fought with this victim mentality but I feel was able to overcome it and it allowed her world to grow and she made new friends and her and Fetechou were able to have a deeper connection.
However, there were a few things that disappointed me…
SPOILERS AHEAD: DONT SCROLL IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW.
…..
ARE YOU SURE?
SERIOUSLY GO READ IT FIRST…
What was with the ending? The build up and development of Fetechou to turning into a human? and for what? He stayed a vampire? I know that it was hinted that if he became fully human he possibly would age faster. I just was confused, disappointed. I feel like there were so many other ways to end this story beautifully. Maybe NaRae just didn’t know what to do to give the two a happy ending, but I honestly did not enjoy the last few panels.
I feel like a theme throughout the series was that Fetechou and Naerim didn’t want to live without one another, that they wanted to be together forever, and that if one of them didn’t want to live, they needed too for the sake of the other. It just kind of seemed a let down after they fought so hard to show each other how much they cared.
However, I did enjoy the snow day date. Just wish we could have seen more of that and less of you know…well him disintegrating into a pile of ash on the beach. I remember reading that last part and just sitting there confused for a moment.
Otherwise, I really enjoyed this read. I would say it’s MAM approved.
Have you read this sweet series? What were your thoughts?
And as always, see you later otakus!
